"I don’t want anybody else
When I think about you I touch myself"

I Touch Myself - The Divinyls

Music has always been something I’ve found to be an important aspect of my life. From the first grade until graduating high school, I was a member of school orchestras, jazz and marching bands, sang in several choirs and a cast member in two musicals.

In addition, listening to music has been a source of inspiration, motivation and creativity. Music provides comfort when I feel down, speaks to me when no one understands. It is my muse, it is an integral part of who I am. My life has a soundtrack.

I don’t hide the fact that I love my iPod.

I listen more music now, covering a sufficiently broader range of genres, artists and styles since I began digitizing my music. The iPod has made the difference even more profound.

Some people may argue there are better digital audio players. I disagree.

But that’s a topic for another day.

Todays topic is the newest item in the ever growing iPod accessory market, estimated by some to total roughly $1 billion.

Ladies and gentlemen… I present the OhMiBod.

OhMiBod

"The OhMiBod vibrator is a whole new way to enjoy your iPod® or any other music player. Everyone loves music. Everyone loves sex. OhMiBod combines music and pleasure to create the ultimate acsexsory™ to your iPod."

The makers of the OhMiBod also hosts a "social" network site with playlists created by professional DJs and blogs for customers share their personal experiences and playlists with other members of the Club Vibe community.

At $69.00 it’s apparently a big hit. The OhMiBod is currently backordered with approximately a 4 week waiting list.

Fascinating.

My iPod and This Weeks Playlist

Posted on December 24th, 2005 by April.
Categories: Music, iPod.

I post the music (artists) that have been played on my iPod in the last week on my MySpace profile. Since 360 doesn’t have a real good place for me to post the weekly snapshot of my audio life, I thought I’d start posting it as a blog entry.

First a little background on my iPod listening habits…

I have a very LARGE music collection… and still growing. :) Yes, it’s all legal.

Well, since I have so much music and also love exploring new music, I often find that my older stuff, great songs, albums, or genres, sometimes get lost. Not forgotten - well sometimes forgotten :) - but just lost in the shuffle.

That was before my music life changed… I got an iPod and maybe just as importantly, converted my music into digital files.

No more LPs or CDs to flip through (I never liked tapes… except for mixes). Yeah, looking at LP cover art is fun… but because of their size, the cover art on CDs tends not to have the visual draw that LPs do - for me anyway.

With my music converted to digital files, I have instant access to my full library - and can search through it using, title, artist, album, or any other meta data within each track (year, label, keyword, etc.)

I’ve got several "static" playlists, great for when I need music to fit my mood… soundtrack to the movie "Life".

But the way I listen most of the time is using a couple "smart" playlists. I’ve got one with the new music I’ve added to my collection in the last 30 days, random selections (about a 100 each) of songs in a specific genre, songs in "heavy" rotation - most played overall + most played in the last 30 days, etc.

Enter the random playlist of forgotten songs.

What I find sometimes most satisfying though, is a smart playlist of songs never played (play count == 0) or tracks selected completely random. Oh… "never played", doesn’t mean I’ve never listened to a particular track - but I’m sure there some I haven’t - I’ve just never played the track with my current iTunes setup or on my iPod.

Every-time I dock my iPod (everyday), it syncs up with my iTunes music library and in the process the random playlist is filled with all new tracks. Well, some tracks may have been listened to, but I have the playlist set to exclude any track played in the last 90 days.

It’s really cool… and by some form of serendipity, the mix is usually pretty good… I hardly ever skip to the next track… and rediscovering that great song or artist you haven’t listened to in resent memory is wonderful.

Just this week a song came on that I don’t think I’ve listened to since collage. A couple seconds into the groove and I was back in school.

     "Yeah!… that’s a great fuckin’ song…"

Lost in the shuffle… shuffle to the rescue.

Anyway, enough with the story, here’s the last weeks list of played artist…

A Taste Of Honey, ABC, Alannah Myles, Alice Cooper, Aphex Twin, Arrested Development, Bedrock, Belle & Sebastian, Blur, Bobby Womack, Brittney Spears, Cal Tjader, David Gray, Death in Vegas, Destinys Child, Dinah Washington, Electronic, Elvis Costello, Fatboy Slim, Fischerspooner, George Michael, Groove Armada, G-Unit, Ice Cube, Jet Fuel, Jon Bon Jovi, Lenny Kravitz, LFO (Lyte Funky Ones), Limp Bizkit, Lovage, Mashup, MC 900 Ft.
